The Catarina is named after the region of Santa Catarina, a region in Southern Brazil where massanranduba is found. Known as bulletwood or Brazilina Redwood, massanranduba is an exceptionally strong wood that is not commonly seen outside of Latin America. The coloring of bulletwood is a deep brown with subtle red hues that have made it a specialty import for luxury decks or executive tables. In addition, the Catarina also features multicolored timborana, which comes in a attractive range of golden yellow and chestnut colors much like teak.
Other than having a conversation piece of saying that your cutting board is made from "bullet wood", the Catarina is not just a beautiful kitchen piece, but a functional tool. Featuring a juice groove and large 20" work surface, the Catarina is capable and versatile board for any kitchen tasks. The natural oils and density of the tropical woods make the Catarina exceptionally resistant to water, warping and knife scarring. In fact, whereas maple is prized for its durability, bullet wood is twice as dense as hard rock maple.
Each board is made by hand by expert craftsmen from a 4th generation family of woodworkers, using local and responsibly harvested woods.
